In the framework of the manifestation organized by the municipality of Rome in Piazza del Popolo for the commemoration of the New Year, Stefania Miscetti’s Studio curates a session dedicated to contemporary art, proposing a series of images made from artists in a huge format and projected in the facade of the historical square. 

The project is followed by a series of events already done in Rome (Prima Puntata, December of 1994, Projected Artists-Obiettivo Roma, June 1995 – April 1996 in collaboration with 2RC Edizioni d’Arte) and in Florence (Lighting Piece, January 1995).

The intervention is an expression of diverse cultural experiences and intends to reevaluate, in an ephemeral and voluntary way, the role of art in the city and the patrimony of the historical architecture of Rome.

And a wish for 1998 for the arts: share and bring the public together, also in a casual present, in a contemporary language.

Lighting Piece di Yoko Ono is one of the most famous historical artworks from the artist in the beginning of the 60’s and at the start of her career as a performer, reworked in the 90’s by the artist in a new version with color photography.

The artwork consists of a sequence of images of a match that lights itself, sparks, and dies out: a simple and daily act that like a zen story, it offers the mind an instant of suspension and emptiness, that suggests a reflection in the transformation of all things. This consciousness reinforces the beauty and the value of all that, destined to end, sparkles our experience. 

The series of nine images of the artist will accompany the present public in the square during the countdown for the beginning of the New Year (23.30-24.00).

Paolo Canevari, Roman artist, has already intervened with the projection of high resolution of his artworks in the context of other events made by Studio Miscetti. In particular, his intervention exposition/installation Mostro (1995) in the Museo Barracco has created crucial interest between the Roman public and the national critic.

Canevari’s artworks evoke and suggest the act of doing, that does not rediscover noble materials but accentuates their decline and frailty through the use of poor materials, and installation interventions aimed at a physical non-objectivity. 

Segni is the telling of new works proposed by the Roman artist to greet the New Year, projected in Piazza del Popolo between 22.30 and 23.30.
