about.
From 3 December 2025 to 29 March 2026, the exhibition Sub rosa by Silvia Giambrone will be open to the public in the Secret Apartments of Palazzo Doria Pamphilj in Rome, the artist’s third solo show produced by Studio Stefania Miscetti.
The exhibition, created with the support of Princess Gesine Pogson Doria Pamphilj and Don Massimiliano Floridi, presents a selection of works – sculptures, works on paper, videos, many of which were created by Silvia Giambrone specifically for this occasion – in the rooms of the Doria Pamphilj Secret Apartments. Among these is the video of the performance Perché poi sarà troppo tardi (Cinque visioni), held at the Ospitale di Santa Francesca Romana on 14 November, also produced by Studio Stefania Miscetti.
The project creates a dialogue between the artist’s works and the nature, history and richness of the location hosting them. The Secret Apartments, located on the ground floor of Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, have been used as a residence since the 17th century. Today, despite being a museum, they retain their private, non-representative dimension, offering a different perspective on the history of the family.
Silvia Giambrone’s exhibition stems from the reflection on the intertwining of personal stories and History, between layers of traditions and social conventions, thus investigating the construction of the collective domestic imaginary.
The title is an abbreviation of the Latin saying Sub rosa dicta velata est — what is said under the rose is secret — and refers to the Greco-Roman tradition according to which everything that was said around a table, on which a rose (symbol of confidentiality consecrated to the god of silence) was placed, had to remain confidential.
Silvia Giambrone mimically places her works in the Secret Apartments, blending them in with the furnishings, personal objects and symbolic imagery of the Doria Pamphilj family. Her works reveal themselves to be both familiar and alienating objects, and the perception of their dissimilarity generates a subtle unease in the visitor, a doubt that reactivates the gaze and memory. They are oggetti traditori (betraying objects) that “mimetic in their aesthetic dimension but dissident in their function”, as Silvia Giambrone defines them, become bearers of meaning as they are not neutral, but rather capable of revealing and testifying to stories and narratives.
This initiative forms part of Studio Miscetti’s programme, in continuity with its history and practice: not only interventions within the gallery space, but a direct encounter with the city, its places, architectures and stories. It aims to activate and make known the historical heritage through contemporary art, creating connections between past and present, between the intimate dimension of the museum and the collective dimension of urban space.
