about.

STUDIO STEFANIA MISCETTI presents the first Italian solo exhibition by the duo Carmen Freudenthal (Utrecht, 1965) and Elle Verhagen (Gemert, 1963).

Sensitive to fashion’s avant-garde leanings, these two artists are among the most significant and nonconformist representatives of contemporary Dutch photography.

The duo experiments freely with art and fashion photography, continuously endeavouring to go beyond the limits of these disciplines. They play with details while remaining aware of the deeper meaning of reality. “We have a preference for ambiguity in our work in the same way that ambiguity surrounds us. We want to reveal the absurd in everyday life, play with the codes that are part of every scene and then set them within the right perspective.”

FREUDENTHAL / VERHAGEN (1965 & 1962) are a Dutch photography duo based in Amsterdam. Carmen Freudenthal & Elle Verhagen met right after graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy were Carmen studied photography and Elle studied fashion design. There was an immediate recognition of a mutual taste in image making and what fashion imagery should look like.
